Seven Honiton Running Club members completed the beautiful Lustleigh 10k on bank holiday Monday, writes Judy Davy.
Runners taking part in the race – held as part of the Lustleigh Village Show in its 130th year – not only had the hills of Dartmoor to contend with, but also a sunny midday start.
First home for Honiton in third place overall was Kevin Hawker in 40:28, managing to make his way through the field after a slow start.
Next home in 11th place was Alasdair Moffett in 46:18, after a hard week of training for his upcoming ultra-run.
Next came Mark Newson in 28th place (49:33), followed by Mark Dallyn in 49th place (53:34).
Esme Moffett, competing in her first race for a while, came home in 78th place (1:00:06).
Anne Carter finished 113th (1:07:04) and Janice Newson, finishing in 132nd place (1:12:41), said ‘it was more like torture than a race’.
The men’s team won the team prize, beating Torbay Athletic Club. Kevin was also pleased to restock the wine rack for his wife Wendy with the prizes won. After the race and a quick wipe down, runners stayed on to enjoy the village show.
