Saturday night sporting round-up - Cup exits for Honiton Town and Axminster Town - first defeat of the season for Honiton RFC

It was a bad day for East Devon sides playing in the Carl Throgmorton Devon Premier Cup with Honiton Town, Axminster Town and Beer Albion all losing.

Axminster Town were beaten on penalties at SWP League Western Division side Plymstock United who won the spot kick competition after the sides had ended 2-2 after extra-time.

Charlie Skilton and Johnny Hurford scored the Tigers’ goals.

Honiton Town also went out of the Premier Cup, in their case beaten 4-2 at home by North Devon League side Bocca Seniors. Kieran Conway and Lewis Couch scored the Hippos’ goals. Beer Albion battled well against higher placed opposition before exiting the competition, beaten 1-0 by St Martins of the SWP League Eastern Division. Seaton Town also went out, they were beaten for the second successive Saturday at Colyton, losing 3-1.

It was not all bad news though, for Feniton remain in the competition and they claimed a higher league scalp in the process, winning 3-2 at Liverton United of the SWP League Eastern Division. Dunkeswell Rovers made Devon Intermediate Cup progress with a 1-0 home win over Central.

In the Macron League Premier Division Upottery went down 3-1 at Okehampton Argyle. In Division Five, Upottery Reserves were 2-1 Glebe Park winners over Awlsicombe.In Division Six, Seaton Town Reserves were 4-1 home winners over Bradninch and Colton Reserves won 2-1 at Silverton.

Rugby

It was not a good day either for Honiton RFC, who saw their unbeaten start to the new Tribute Cornwall and Devon season as they went down 38-24 at Bude.
