Sidmouth Warriors Under-8s ended as runners-up after a superb days football at the annual Colyton 6-a-side tournament.

There were 11 teams in the competition and first up the Warriors were edged out by the narrowest of margins by Exeter Panthers.

They bounced back with a 3-0 success over Seaton Sparrowhawks 3-0 with a brace of goals form Toby Edmunds and one from Ben Elsom. Honiton Hornets were next up, and they found Warriors in great form as a hat-trick from Jamie Pitter guided the Sidmouth outfit to a 4-1 win.

In the final group game Warriors went into the meeting with Brixington United knowing that only a win would send them through. Any other result and they’d be on their way home!

Thanks to a combination of excellent goalkeeping by Charley Turley and determined defending from Dev Nair and Finlay Snape, the Warriors were 2-1 winners and, after an anxious wait they took on Heavitree Youth for a place in the final.

In the semi-final it was too close to call, but once again with fantastic contributions from all the team and excellent attacking play from Jo Anning and Callum French the deadlock was finally broken with Sidmouth winning 1-0.

The final saw the Warriors meet the team they had begun the tournament playing. Once again it was a close encounter, but once again the Exeter side edged it.

It was a superb all-round day for the youngsters who will surely go on to lift their fair share of tournament trophies in then years ahead.
