Upottery thrash Ammies and take goal count to 80 for the season

Fresha League Division Three table-toppers Upottery made short work of basement side Ammies as they thumped home 13 to take their season’s goal tally to 80.

Strikers Steve Morris and Sam Winslade both struck four goal hauls and there were doubles from Mark Tucker and Dan Scadden with Jamie Girton also on the score sheet.

Upottery boss Dan Prettejohn said: “We played well. However, we did miss enough chances to have really boosted out goal difference and I hope we don’t pay a heavy price at the end of the season for failing to score more. That said the win keeps us going in the right direction as we head to the business end of our Fresha campaign.”

The villagers have just seven left, but their season will probably be defined by what happens in their next two games as they entertain first second placed Newtown on Saturday and seven days later host third-in-the-table University.

Prettejohn says: From now on every game is a cup final for us. I set us on a mission at the start of the season and the finishing line is in sight. The next two are massive, but even if we win them and put a dent in two of our rival’s chances, I’ll still be looking for perfection in the five after that.”

Gary Moore, who missed the thrashing of Ammies, returns to the squad for Saturday’s big encounter with Newtown.
