Fusion edge out Replay in final match of the Exmouth Netball League campaign

Fusion 27, Replay 23

Fusion and Replay played out a rearranged game that proved to be a close contest from first whistle to last.

Replay started with a player short and the first quarter made it clear it was going to be a tight match throughout. Fusion were unable to fully capitalise on their numerical advantage and the break arrived with the score 6-all. Replay, restored to a full compliment began the second period well and made life difficult for Fusion who were frustrated by some weak passes which the opposition were quick to claim for themselves. However, despite strong play and good team work of their shooters, Amy Browring and Donna Hawkins, it was Fusion that held a three-goal lead at half-time.

Fusion increased their lead early in the third quarter, but Replay, with GD, Anna Higgins playing well against the impressive Fusion GA Emma Davey (who scored a number of goals from the outer edge of the circle!), began to claw their way back.

The final quarter was just as close as the previous three, but Fusion, with Becky Smith and Sophie Littlejohn proving to be a strong centre court team, and with a number of young players who have come on leaps and bounds this season, were good value for their narrow victory.

Becky Smith of Fusion and Amy Browring of Replay bagged the Player of the Match awards.
