Flying conditions have improved at the Devon and Somerset Gliding Club and we had extended soaring flights up to an hour on both Thursday and Saturday, writes Jill Harmer.

With the field drying out from some sunshine and a brisk wind, we are winch launching again, alongside the aerotows, enabling training to resume at its normal fast pace.

Motorglider VG took to the skies after a downtime of 12 months, now with a new engine. Syndicate partner Stu Procter from Dunkeswell checked out several owners while running-in the engine in the skies around North Hill.

The SF25E Superfalke motorglider is privately owned by a group of Club members, it is also available for other members to practise navigation exercises and training for landing in fields.

Our Club gliders are steadily returning to flying status after winter maintenance and inspections, and we are nearly back up to full strength of five two-seater training gliders and two single seaters. Thanks to all our Inspectors Ian Mitchell from Uffculme, Pete Startup from Ottery St Mary, Carl Flame from Yeovil, Technical Officer Andrew Logan from Exeter and all the Club members who have assisted.
