Several couples took part in the Glanville Cup competition, writes Ann Desmoulins.

In what were super Sunday sunny conditions, the format was a difficult one – foursomes stableford played off the men’s card.

The course played very well with the greens putting true.

In first place were Heidi and Lee Watson-Jones with 36 points.

Second were Mona Carter and Cyril Dann one point adrift with 35 points and third, on countback, were Jackie and Alan Seager with 31 points. A nice afternoon was enjoyed by all.

●The Wooden Spoon, an annual contest between the ladies and the men, took the place of the regular Tuesday Mixed competition.

As usual, it was hotly contested with four-ball better ball matchplay as the format.

With the ladies playing off the men’s card, but from their own tees, certain stroke allowances were awarded to the ladies (many were disputed of course!).

The final result was a resounding victory for the ladies, so the allowances will be reduced next year.

The Wooden Spoon was duly presented to the club captain by the ladies’ captain.
