Honiton Hornets run out of steam as Torbay net seven

Honiton Hornets 0, Torbay 7

Sadly this weekend’s return to League games after the Christmas and new year break did not lead to a 2014 win for Honiton, writes Ann Reed.

However, the match, played throughout on a wind and rain-swept pitch, revealed considerable development in skills and determination with everyone working really hard against a team who are placed near the top of the league; and to quote the stand-in captain: “The ggrrrr was definitely there’!”

Honiton only conceded two goals in the fiercely fought first half, but were unable to prevent the home side adding a further five in the second half when energy levels seemed to be diminishing as the opposition grew in confidence, maintaining its aggressive approach.

Honiton did have opportunities to score, finding themselves in the Torbay circle on a number of occasions in both halves, but were unable to capitalise and complete the manoeuvres to put goals on the score card.

Goalkeeper, Sue Stone, ‘played a blinder’ and richly deserved the ‘Player of the Match’ accolade.
