Honiton ladies see off Madeira in Lane trophy meeting

Honiton ladies were in fine form when they met Madeira in a Lane trophy match, writes Julie Grant.
The ladies banked the maximum 10 points, winning on all four rinks to record an overall 75-50 success
The Honiton rink wins were; Jenny Baker, Chris Barradell and Carol Armitage, 25-8; Myra Singleton, Jean Mitchell and Margaret Bright, 20-16; Laraine Carless, Val Kille and Sharon Kenny, 17-14; Gloria Randall, Sue Banwell-Moore and Carole Binmore, 13-12.
The ladies triumphed over Torbay in the national Vivienne triple competition, winning 72-66, winning on three rinks, losing on one, and they will now play Isca in January.
The men also beat Torbay B when they met them in an Interclub (ICL) fixture that they won by 76 shots to 73, winning on two rinks and losing on two. Top rink were Ted Cox, Mike Dart, Barry Randall and Terry House, 28-12.
However, in the next ICL game Honiton lost 86-55 to Isca Gold, with the one winning rink being the one of Ted Cox, Denis Hillyear, Gerry Stafrace and Bill Nicholls, 20-10.
A mixed friendly with Taunton Deane resulted in a 67-60 loss. In this fixture the top Honiton rink was the one of Joyce Granger, Dave Yardley, Jimmy Smith and Tony Broughton, 28-7.
There was a resounding win for Honiton in a friendly against Feniton with the final score being 119-62. The top Honiton rink was the one of Marian Baxter, Ron Rogers, Dave Yardley and Margaret Bright.
Best wishes go to five Honiton lady bowlers Rita Barwick, Carole Binmore, Joan Heard, Rosemary Hirons and Shirley Hiscocks who will play for Devon against Wiltshire in the prestigious national county knockout competition known as the Atherley later this month.
