Honiton runners in action at the Great South Run

Not content with running one race on the south coast, two Honiton Running Club (HRC) veterans, Howard Bidmead and Roger Saunders, and younger member Claire Rouse headed for the Great South Run in Southsea on the penultimate Sunday of October, writes Judy Davey.

It was wall-to-wall sunshine and quite warm with 20,000 runners lining up at the start.

The route was completely flat, finishing along the seafront and there was various entertainment along the route. The winner was Chris Thompson in a time of 46:56 mins and first lady was Eilish McColggan in 54:43. Howard was the first Honiton runner home, having been paced by Roger, in a great time of 1:16:42. Roger came in at 1:19:56, just behind Iwan Thomas, which was better than his time last year.

Claire got round in 1:33:46, another good time.
