Two Honiton Running Club members travelled to the Roseland Peninsula in South Cornwall to take part in the Roseland August Trail race series, writes Judy Davey.

Ben Stone and Alasdair Moffet were on duty for the event that was made up of four different distances of 11 miles, 20 miles, The Black Rat 32 miles and The Plague 64 mile race.

Stone took part in the Plague which started at midnight on the Friday night and ran through the night on challenging coast paths between Porthpean and St Anthony’s near Falmouth.

The race then turns back and returns to Porthpean where Stone finished in a time of 14 hours and 11 minutes. That placed him eighth out of the 100 runners that took part.

Moffett competed in the Black Rat event and was dropped off at St Anthony’s at 8.30am to run the 32 miles back to Porthpean.

Moffett enjoyed the race, finishing an excellent 22nd in a time of six hours and 16 minutes.

Both agreed that the terrain was very challenging and Ben Stone compared it to running three-and-a-half Grizzlies, but a bit harder!
