The Walker Cup was the latest mixed competition played at Honiton, writes Ann Desmoulins.

The format was greensomes stableford with half combined handicaps. After the Sunday rain, it was relief to find the weather co-operating for the meeting!

Honiton seniors’ captain John Pawley and his wife Cathy took the honours with their superb score of 49 points. Second place went to club captain Richard Beard and lady captain Liz Rogers, with their score being 45 points. Indeed, Richard and Liz were sitting patiently in the clubhouse after completing their excellent round ready to be pronounced as winners before that amazing final, Walker Cup-winning round from the Pawleys. It was a close thing for third place with countback called into play prior to Terry Dimond and Penny Blackburn being given that berth.
