Honiton recently entertained a team from Bovey Tracey, winning on three rinks out of four but losing on accumulated score by one shot, writes Roger Binmore.

Honiton’s top rink was Peter Goodwin, Pat Whitworth, Maureen Parsons and Mike Critchley winning by 25-14.

The club’s next match was again entertaining a visit from Taunton Vivary. With only three rinks taking part Honiton came out on top winning by two rinks to one. Honiton’s best rink this time was Ian McKenzie, Vicky Salter, Margaret Bright and Ken Clarke, winning by 37-10.

Honiton must by now be getting used to playing on their own rink. This time they welcomed a team from the South Dorset Bowling Association. They managed to win on all four rinks, the top rink being Maureen Parsons, Keith Parsons, Liz Fielding and Mike Critchley. There are a couple of familiar names there.

Honiton ventured away from home playing against Donyatt Bowling Club which is between Chard and Ilminster. This time the four teams were triples (three players per team). Honiton came out on top winning by 72-56. The top rink was June Lee, Alan Fuller (this year’s Men’s Captain) Ken Clarke! Winning by 24-9.

There have been two good results in County competitions. These matches are played with two rinks at home and two away.

One was for the Ladies in The Foxlands Trophy against Torquay United. Honiton won on three rinks - scoring points for each rink. The overall score on shots was level.

The second is for the Men’s Over60s County Trophy. This match was against ISCA in Exeter. Honiton had a good win losing on only one away rink. The three winning rinks all played well to produce a total of 90-67.
