The Honiton Bowls Club Indoor season of friendly matches started this week with two home wins and two away wins, writes Tony Broughton.
Their first match at home was four rinks against Ottery St Mary that Honiton won by 104-38. We should not crow too much about that match because although some Ottery players also play Indoors the majority are not regular indoor players but hopefully they all enjoyed their afternoon.
Honiton’s top rink that day with a 34-7 score line was Harry Riley, Val Kille, George Kille and Mike Critchley.
Second match two rinks away to Budleigh Salterton and another good win of 54-18. Top rink this time was Ken Clarke, Peter Baker, Tony Tooley and Carol Smith with 30-8.
Next three rinks went away to Exonia and a very good 58-52 win for Honiton. Top rink this time was Kieran Daniels, Paul Gadd, Ken Clarke and Brenda Harris.
Finally four rinks from Bovey Tracey came to Honiton and were all defeated. The total score 88 Honiton to 59 Bovey, but the rink coming out top by a couple of shots at 25-15 was Iris Long, Brian Long, Keith Parsons and Dulcie Broughton. I seem to remember the same match last year was lost to them by a similar margin so we all look forward to a re-match when they return in March.
A good start for the season, hopefully it can continue for our new Captains Anne Newman and Fred Dart.
