Honiton duo run well at Indian Queens Half Marathon event

10:26 14 August 2014

Two Honiton Running Club members took part in the Indian Queens Half Marathon which is mainly road and fairly flat, writes Judy Davey.

Julie Payne finished in 102nd place in a time of 1:36:55 and that saw her win a bottle of wine for coming first in her age category.

Stephen Boyes came 132nd in 1:40:06 and was pleased with his run which he used as part of his training for the Loch Ness Marathon next month.

There were 562 finishers and the race was won by Ben Price of Cheltenham Harriers in the speedy time of 1:14:19.

Having celebrated his daughter’s wedding in Midhurst, West Sussex on the Saturday, Honiton runner Howard Bidmead entered the Harting 10-mile trail run.

Harting is a small village set within the South Downs National Park on the West Sussex / Hampshire border.

This is a tough run starting in the village with the first three miles all uphill and comprising of country lanes and tracks.

At three miles the course evens out until five miles where there is a sharp right hand turn and then two miles uphill to the top of the Downs where the runners are met with amazing views across the Sussex and Hampshire countryside.

At eight miles the route descends back into Harting to the finish. There were 206 runners that completed the event.

Howard ran, in his words, ‘a gentle pace’, and finished 88th with a credible time of 1:22.

The race was run by Julian Manning from Denmead Striders in a time of 57:46.
