The fabulous Honiton Town season is at serious risk with the continuing rain forcing cancellation after cancellation.

The Mountbatten Park men were subjected to a seventh successive postponement when their Devon senior Cup quarter final tie at Dartmouth Reserves was washed out last weekend.

They’ll try again this Saturday and that means another match day without a Fresha League Division two outing.

As things currently stand Town resume their Fresha Two title challenge on February 22 when they are due to entertain second-in-the-table Dolphin. If the game with the Exeter side is played it will be Town’s first league game since the December 14, 4-0 win over Colyton!

It all adds up to worrying times for Town boss Kev Blackwell who saw his sides promising league challenge peter out in the run in last season when his team were forced to play a large number of games in a short space of time!

The next scheduled Fresha Two game after that Dolphin encounter is a March 8 trip to Honiton after which they will still have 14 Division Two games to negotiate and those matches will probably have to be squeezed into the last seven weeks of the season!

Blackwell says: “It is what it is and there’s no time for us to feel sorry for ourselves. I’d like to think this squad is good enough to climb the highest mountain in terms of what faces us. Last year we fell short, but I believe the experience we gained in that disappointment last season will put us in good stead to see this particular term out to a successful conclusion.”

Town head to South Devon for Saturday’s Firewatch Devon Senior Cup tie unbeaten to date after 16 league and cup outings.

To underline the number of matches Town may have now to squeeze in. The first 17 games they played this season were completed in 17 weeks. Prior to this Saturday they have 15 more league games and possible three County Cup ties to play, that’s a total of 18 matches and, after Saturday, there are 10 more Saturday match days before the start of May!
