Morley Rangers 1, Honiton Town 3

Ten-man Town powered their way into the last eight of the Firewatch Devon Senior Cup with a performance of real maturity in Plymouth.

It means that since taking the Honiton helm Kev Blackwell has now seen his charges bag six straight successes in league and cup!

Goals from Tom Genders and Brad Groves put Town in charge. The hosts halved the deficit before the break.

Early in the second half Ben Price picked up a straight red leaving Town to play a full third of the match a player short. A quick re-shuffle left Tim Genders ploughing a lone furrow up front and he rose to the occasion with an outstanding contribution. It was no more than Blackwell’s side deserved when Matt Brown made the game safe slamming in his side’s third goal.

Blackwell said: “It was a workmanlike performance and, on the day, we were able to enjoy the benefit of some big individual shifts, none more so than Tim (Genders) who ran his socks off when we went down to ten players. The biggest complement I can pay him as that a neutral would not have though we were a player light given the work load he took on! This is a trophy you perhaps would not expect a Fresha League Division two side to win. However, we are into the last eight now and why not us to go all the way? The one thing I was keen to do above all else when I took the job on was to get the name of Honiton Town more recognised in footballing circles and we are well on the way to achieving that. It is feet on the floor time though, for, as much as winning is a fabulous habit to be in, there’s always a new challenge and that’s what we face on Saturday.”

Next up for Blackwell’s and his in-form side is a trip to Westexe Rovers in a league game. The Tiverton-based outfit sit a lofty sixth in the table having played five games more than Town.

A seventh successive victory and Town will sit just three points shy of Westexe and have those games in hand.
