Birthday boy Tom Phillips scored eight tries as Honiton Under-7s remained unbeaten in the four matches they played against Chard on a muddy Sunday morning at Northcote Lane.
Phillips, celebrating his seventh birthday, scored a hat-trick in the first game which ended 5-5. Jake Downs got the other two tries in a keenly contested match. Phillips then led the way with five tries as the Tigers roared to victory 6-3 in the second match. All the team played well and there were some impressive performances by the other team members – Harry Kent, Jacob Farnes and Charlie Pickering.
Honiton loaned the Somerset visitors Harvey Hannay and he stole the show in two more matches, both which ended in a 5-5 draw. In the first match he scored two of Chard’s tries while Honiton’s tries were shared by Jake Carter (2), Dylan Burrows (2) and Alfie Kent. Hannay then scored four of the visitors’ tries but it wasn’t enough to earn his adopted side victory as tries from Robert Hennessy (2), Tyler Patch (2) and Ewan Powers-Maguire earned a share of the spoils.
