Archant

Honiton Hornets Hockey Club 4, Sidmouth & Ottery Hockey Club 4ths 1

Hornets were at home this weekend for the second week running against local side Sidmouth and Ottery, but this time played the visitors’ 4th team, writes Ann Reed.

Nonetheless, taking nothing for granted, Honiton went on the offensive from the opening whistle and met determined defending – as well as some strong attacking play - from the visitors, which continued throughout the game. So this week it took five minutes longer for the opening goal to be scored!

Honiton’s Sophie George scored from a penalty corner pass in the eighth minute. Laura Franks – who had a splendid game throughout – was the next to find the back of the net with a little help from Kat Tucker in the circle.

Sophie George added another goal from a penalty corner and the final goal of the half was down to Dawn Mayo.

After half time, it looked as if the home side were relaxing a little; but the visitors were clearly not, as they pushed up the field putting pressure on the home defence. Eventually this paid off and a goal resulted. However, Honiton managed to contain the Sid and Otter attacks for a 4-1 win.

Player of the Match: Laura Franks (with Sammi Parke a very close second!).

Practices continue on Wednesday evenings between 8.00pm and 9.00pm on the all-weather surface adjacent to Honiton Sports Centre.

This surface is not the best for hockey sticks, and it is likely to cause damage to your stick so PLEASE, if possible, use an old stick for training, Cost £2 per session

All interested in hockey - regardless of current experience and skills - will be made most welcome, so just turn up!
