This week members played a greensome stableford competition with an allowance of half combined handicap - with a slight difference - it was four clubs and a putter, writes Andy Wagner.
The winners with 43pts were Janet Hughes and Paul Ritchie.
In second place with 42 points after countback were Elizabeth Ward and John Northover. In third, also with 42pts were Maureen Tollemache and John Dickinson and fourth with 39pts were Di Wall and Andy Sharland.
The Honiton Golf Club Tuesday Mixed annual outing was held at Bowood Park Golf Club. The format for both days was drawn teams of four full handicap allowance with two best scores to count. Due to adverse weather conditions the first days play was reduced to nine holes. The winners were the team of Catherine Doherty, Di Wall, Max Pipe and Andy Sharland with an impressive 47pts.
In second place were Heather Clarke, Olwen Eaton, Peter Clarke and Phil Wall with 42pts on countback from third placed Linda McLaughlin, Elizabeth Wood, John Northover and Paul Witton.
The weather on the second day was better and allowed everyone to play 18 holes.
The winning team with 82pts. were Catherine Doherty, Peter Clarke, Andy Sharland and Laurie Tollemache. Second and third places went to team with 75 points and, after countback Linda McLaughlin, Jill Mico, Ryan Eaton and Phil Wall edged out the team of Maureen Tollemache, Di Wall, John Northover and Vaughan Whiteley into third place. As in the previous year during the evening Vaughan Whiteley (guitar and vocals) and Paul Witton (guitar) entertained everyone with their specially written lyrics detailing events from the club. Max Pipe then continued the entertainment with his stories and jokes. Despite the less than perfect weather it was a most enjoyable and successful trip and thanks must go to Sue and Paul Ritchie for all their hard work in organising the event.
