Taunton RFC U10s 4 , Honiton RFC U10s 4
Hosted by Taunton RFC, something of a colossus in rugby terms to the less experienced Honiton side, the girl and boys battled bravely and consistently showing determination in attacking and defending.
Tries were scored by Lewis Gleed and Owen Willis, Sam Webb, with a great dodging run and Matthew Webb. Man of the Match was Jack Todd for his relentless tackling. A fantastic effort by all involved; keep up the good work guys!
Taunton U11s 40 , Honiton Musketeers 26
Having not played since the end of November the Musketeers faced the daunting prospect of Taunton with team spirit and pride. Half time saw Honiton 19-12 down, with tries from Elliot Moran and Dan Phillips. The second half started brightly with a try from Sam Olive and another from Moran, Conversions came from Tom Ferry 2 and Jake Mathews 1.
Honiton U12s 7 , Taunton U12s 50
Honiton started well, but unfortunately missed tackles was the story for a lot of the game. Taunton went in 38-0 up at half time, and to heap woe on Honiton, were able to bring out a completely fresh side for the second half.
The second half was much more balanced. Taunton scored two more tries, but Honiton scored when a strong run from Nathan Keywood who selflessly passed the ball to Jack Katene to score Honiton's only try which he then converted.
Taunton RFC U9s 1, Honiton RFC U9s 4
Honiton U9s first game of 2012 was away to Taunton. They came out full of determination, under the captaincy of Toby Barber, they were first to score with a try from Sam Steel, closely followed by Finlay Keywood.
Honiton played some fantastic rugby with a solid performance throughout the game, they tackled well keeping the home side in their half for most of the match, both Steel and Keywood scored again giving them a brace each, Honiton showed some great team work which was reflected in the final score 1-4.
On a crisp Sunday the 14s and 15s were the two home sides and fortunately both sides went down to useful opposition, writes Jerry Rice.
On the top pitch the 14s entertained Taunton who had several rather sharp players on show. Honiton were stunned in to action as the visitors scored the first of their tries in the opening minute. Honiton did rally but by half time they were 21 points down with three converted tries conceded.
The second half was in a similar vein as the opposition dotted down twice but Honiton’s Man of the Match James Fernandez had the last word as he got a consolation try in a 33-5 defeat. Biggest cheer of the day was saved for the ref David Meadows who entertained the crowd with a very un-gracious backward fall as he tripped over a stray leg!
The U15s were up against a tough Barnstaple crew on the bottom pitch and, with slope and wind advantage, were guilty of not taking their chances in the first half.
Jonny House scored and Wright converted but Barnstaple bounced back and scored two good tries. Wright levelled with a penalty but just before the break the visitors scored again to hold a slender 15-10 lead.
Honiton only managed to score one try to Barnstaple two. Wes Keywood was the scorer.
It was a close game when all said and done but Honiton seem decidedly off colour in a game they would normally have dominated.
