Toby Harradence, the coach, with Hannah Lane, the coaching assistant, instructed four groups of 12 juniors.

Val Stringer, chairman of Ottery St Mary Tennis Club said: “The coaches did a fantastic job. Despite the weather, all 10 sessions were completed before the end of term.”

As you can see from the photo, the juniors also had a great time while learning tennis skills. Helped no doubt by having a British tennis player in the finals at Wimbledon this year.

Andy Murray started playing from an early age and it has certainly proved worthwhile for him and for British tennis.

Now we need more youngsters to follow in his footsteps.

Results of the final competition: Group 1: 1, Oscar Bowerman; 2= Riordan Ashdown and Isaac Roderick. Group 2: 1, Jonathan Pitcher; 2, Ryan Waters; 3, Theodore Madden.Group 3: 1, Mark Reddish; 2, Owen Waters; 3, Jack Dallyn. Group 4: 1, Tristan Allen; 2, Caius Nicolas.

The autumn tennis coaching sessions start on September 12. There will be six sessions starting at 4pm every Wednesday. The cost is £25 for the autumn course which will start on the Kings' School outdoor courts. There is a possibility of following on inside the Colin Tooze Centre from October to Christmas.
