A single venue classic car trial organised by Windwhistle Motor Club was held on Sunday March 16, at Bovey Down near Seaton, writes Dorothy Bagnall.
Twenty-four cars ranging from specially built trials cars to variously modified road cars were entered from around the South Somerset and East Devon area.
It was agreed that the event was well organised and enjoyed by all competitors with only five retirements over the day.
The competitors tackled 26 sections of various dirt tracks up steep hills marked out with numbered stakes from twelve to zero, the idea being to score zero fails in their attempt at each section.
The cars are split into various classes dependent on engine size and modification. This year’s overall winner was Clive Kalber, other participants were placed in their various classes.
The event has been held during the spring of each year for the last several years, and hopefully will continue to do so in future years.
The event was also open to non-members of Windwhistle Motor Club who were able to take out temporary membership for the day. This rule applies to all wishing to take part in Windwhistle events such as the summer field events that are fun for all wishing to try their skills at timed autotests in an off-road situation.
These events are held on alternate Wednesday evenings during the summer months. Details of dates and venue can be obtained from Paul Bagnall, club president, on 01460 220148.
