Devon golfing teenager Sophie Keech dominated the Under-21s Faldo Series in Pyle and Kenfig.

The 17-year old who plays out of Parkston Golf Club, Dorset, carded scores of 69,72 and 73.

On the first day, in windy conditions, she hit the ball solidly from tee to green with excellent putting.

She struck one eagle and four birdies, breaking the course record to finish five under!

Day two saw calmer weather and her good form continued and she held her nerve to finish two under for the day.

The third and final day was hit by wind and rain, but that was brushed aside by the teenager as she bagged a brace of birdies in the first three holes and par’d the others on the way to the turn at the ninth.

She dropped shots at the tenth and eleventh, but her strong, determined and bright spirit enabled her to buckle down and grind out a result to birdie on the 18th to shoot a final round minus one and that left her minus eight for the competitions and so she lifted The Faldo Title by nine shots!

That means the youngster has now won all the qualifying competitions for the fourth consecutive year for the Faldo Grand Final which is held in The Greenbrier West Virginia in America.

Sophie’s caddy, Sue Edwards, the Dorset County team captain said: “Watching Sophie play was a real pleasure, her enthusiasm for the game is obvious and I am sure her bubbly, expressive personality helps her to enjoy every aspect of the game which is reflected in her excellent score.”

Returning home to Devon Sophie received a letter from England saying she has been selected to play in The England Nations Cup Team which starts on her 18th Birthday at Fairhaven.

Sophie is looking forward to playing for her country on her birthday and said: “I won’t be partying for my 18th, that’s for sure. I love playing golf and it will be an early night for me!”
