A busy week for the Seniors saw them win the home return inter-club match with Taunton Vale by 5-1, writes Janet Dack.

Although they lost the April fixture in Taunton 4-2, the overall score gave Axe Cliff a 7-5 advantage. Winning pairings for Axe Cliff included Rob Grove/Peter Knighting; Mick Tomes/Alan Vincent; Geoff Hubbard/John White; Stuart Mackie/Gilbert Cox and Terry Jessup/Jack Bannister.

On Thursday, the Captain’s Away-day was held at Dainton Park, near Newton Abbot. Twenty members took part including captain, Rob Grove, who thanked vice captain John White for organising the day, thoroughly enjoyed by all who participated. Everyone won a prize but the main winners were Gilbert Cox, nearest the pin on the eighth, and Peter Rollason nearest the pin at the 15th. The winner of the individual Stableford with 36 points was Rob Heard, second with 33 points Iain Bain and third John White with 32 points.

On Friday the prizes for Stablefords and Medals over the last three months were presented to winners by Rob Grove. This was preceded by a 15 hole Stableford for the Quarterly Cup which, on a showery morning, was won by Mick Tomes (17) with a solid 30 points. Second on countback was Rob Grove (15)with Dave Weston (21) third, both scoring 26 points. The Knock-out Cup, played over the summer months, was won by Gerry Turner, who beat Bill Polley in the final by 3&2.

Ladies’ section: Winner of this week’s Stableford Competition on a very windy Wednesday was Helen Kenworthy (14) with a very respectable 36 points.
