Archant

After a week of somewhat draughty conditions with precipitation everywhere who would have thought that the conditions for the Exeter Half Marathon would have been so glorious, writes Dave Mutter.

It was a three-lap traffic free pancake flat half marathon run on footpaths and cycle tracks around the River Exe and Exeter Canal.

The run is becoming more popular now as a great training course for the upcoming London Marathon.

Emma Kiernan had a great run and was first AVR home 65th in 1:37:44, closely followed by Adele Foxwell, 76th in a new P.B. of 1:39:33. Chris Polly was 140th, 1:51:48; Bethany Sibley 188th, 2:06:08 and mum Amie Sibley 229th, 2:26:12.

It was Bethany and Amie’s first half marathon and they raised over £450 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Two years ago Amie was not a runner and struggled to run 100 meters.

Encouraged by other family members who are part of AVR she joined the beginners group and with lots of help and encouragement from the leaders and other runners she has persevered with running to achieve this milestone, so a big thank you goes to all of them.
