Treble Six was this week’s format for the Mixed Competition, with players trying to amass a good score in the Better Ball part to help when one plays the Foursomes Format at the end, writes Andy Wagner.

Scores were good with an excellent 41pts for the winners, Heather and Peter Clarke. Second, with 38pts, were Di and Phil Wall, third were Cherry Liell and Bob Underwood with 37pts.

28 players from the Mixed Competitions - the Honitonians - again enjoyed an away trip this year choosing Bowood Park in Cornwall. Geoff Banks was the organiser - so everything went like clockwork. Format for the first day was Greensomes. The winners with 36pts were Olwen and Bill Eaton; 2, 34pts, Joy and John Kerr; 3, 32pts, Sue and Paul Ritchie; 4, 31pts, Linda and John Northover.

The next day the format was 4 BBB with playing partners drawn at breakfast that morning. The winners with 41pts were Jill Mico and Charlie Doherty. 2, 39pts, Olwen Eaton and Paul Witton; 3, 36pts on c/b, Catherine Doherty and Laurie Tollemache; 4, 36pts, Dot Grove and Bill Eaton. Members were entertained on the Thursday evening by Vaughan Whiteley and Paul Witton on guitars with Vaughan singing a song he had written on situations that occur during the Tuesday Mixed. A vote of thanks was given to Geoff by Charlie on behalf of everyone .

for his hard work in organising another very successful trip.

Ladies Section

The ladies of Honiton Golf Club were out in force and quite literally “Singing in the Rain” for their annual Lady Captain v Vice Captain match last Wednesday - but spirits were high and we were rewarded with brilliant sunshine ensuring all managed a full 18 holes on a very soggy course before the usual downpour set in. It was a great day, made even better by the cabaret - star performers all - who entertained us with their version of that very popular (and this year most apt) song - does Gareth Malone know about our choir I wonder. The result was a very friendly half, and with a tantalizing quiz to finish, what more could you want? The event aimed to raise awareness for the Charity Breakthrough Breast Cancer and £50 was raised on the day. Great effort ladies! This week it was the fog that threatened to spoil the day, but the ladies were determined to take up the challenge and finally play that elusive Medal Trophy competition - on the fifth and final time of asking! The going was very rough but out of the gloom came a courageous winner in Jan Dickinson with a nett score of 76. Runner up was Jill Johnson with a nett score of 77 (c/b). 50 ladies in all completed the course this week - valiant performance by all. In this week’s Stableford the winners were: Silver Division 1st - Tricia Swindell - 29 points; Bronze 1 Division 1, Barbara Mullett - 30 points, 2, Jenny Raison - 28 points; Bronze 2 Division 1, Sue Long - 33 points, 2, Jean Moon - 27 points, 3, Jan Portlock - 22 points.
