For the second week running Craig McGown and Roger Seed both finished on the same score, this week a nett 67, in the August medal, writes Richard Jackman.

McGowan birdied the tricky sixth hole and Seed birdied the seventh and it was nip and tuck all the way, and only on countback it was McGowan who won Division One while Peter Beviss came third with 68. Division Two was also close with the top two only being separated on countback.

Dave Jones birdied holes nine and 18 while young Zac Mudford birdied the fifth and the tricky 17th, but on countback Jones just took the top spot, with Richard Emm in third on nett 70.

The seniors’ stableford produced some real fireworks as 11 handicapper Ray Shinners scored 26 points on the back nine which included five birdies, as he accumulated 42 points.

Unsurprisingly this score was the best of the day and won Division One, but hard on his heels with an incredible 41 points was five-handicapper Keith Gibson, while Paul Millard came third with 39.

Division Two was well won by Philip Rea, as he played steadily to win by three shots on 40 points from Roy Bain, 37 and Jim Pettiifer 36.

The ladies Daily Mail Foursomes was a close run thing as last year’s winners Jenny Scott and Rosie Jackman just qualified on countback from Anne Humphries and Lizzie Linnert, with Cyndy and Amy Mudford in third.

Scott and Jackman will represent the club at the inter club stage next year, hoping they can go to the fifth round and beyond, one round better than this year’s achievement.
