Another week for Lyme Regis bowlers passes and the league situation is little changed, writes Paul Moffitt.

The men continue to do well in the championship and sit at the top of the table. Conversely the ladies and Lyme II men are struggling for points, achieving three and nought respectively against Broadstone and Greenhill A.

The men failed in their bid to progress in the 2Rink competition coming unstuck against a very strong squad from Wellworthy.

On the friendly front it was won two and lost one! The game against Bridport was won by a margin of just one point so, they will be looking for revenge when we visit them later in the season.

After a week of fine dry weather there has been a noticeable improvement in the speed of the green. It’s now bowling instead of skittling!

The Friday night Quiz and Supper event was a great success raising over £270 for club funds and it is hoped to hold another one later in the season if time permits. Jim Moseley was the quizmaster and Sue Wood and her team were in charge of supper, both contributing to a good fun evening.

Results:

Dorset men’s Championship Lyme 6, Alexandra Park 4.

Despite losing on two rinks the home team were able to gain six points thanks to a fine performance from D Meylan, P Eagles, K Hickman and P Moffitt. Charlie Barber’s rink were unlucky to go down by half a shot when faced with a formidable trio more than making up for the loss of one member and a 25 per cent penalty.
