In the seniors’ Gordon Putter Medal competition a steady round from Roger Baker, with nett score of 68 saw him walk away with the trophy, writes Richard Jackman.

In second place just a single shot behind was Roy Mathisen and in third with 70 was Mike List.

In the ladies’ Vi Crow Stableford it was a close run thing for Jane Dixon as she claimed the trophy on countback from Hanna Jacobsen, both with 35 points with the ever-steady Anne Humphreys taking third with 34 points.

Last weekend saw the Men’s Club Championship, played over two days for the first time. After the first day George Seed was four shots ahead of his nearest rivals carding a three-under par 68 which placed him in pole position in both the gross and the nett competitions, a brilliant start for him. On day two the ‘pack’ began to close in, the bush telegraph reporting that others including his father Roger and Stuart Wight were closing the gap.

A large and enthusiastic crowd gathered to watch the last group come up the 270 yard 18th - Roger and George Seed and last year’s double winner David Lyon. George was two shots ahead of his father and played safe taking two shots to get to the green whereas dad was nearly there in one. Roger putted and just missed an eagle, meaning that George needed to hold his nerve and the putt and get down in two.

He did with a gross score of 143, one over, and, for the second year running a junior had won the club championship. Roger was second with 144 and Stuart Wight third with 146.

In the nett competition Matthew Watson had two steady rounds to card 135 and win from George Seed second, 137 and Colin Baker third - 140. The number of juniors in the top 20 is very encouraging for the club a testimony not only to the hard work put in by club professional Duncan Driver, but the hours they spend practising. Also good to see at first hand is their enjoyment and enthusiasm.
