Lyme Regis Golf Club triumph for Southcombe

11:39 29 May 2014

The ladies played their 36-hole championship and Morning Cup and Jane Southcombe continued her excellent run of form to win the Turner Denham Bowl with the best gross score of 162 and with a steady morning round also come second in the Morning Cup, writes Richard Jackman.

Rosie Jackman had a superb afternoon round and this enabled her to come second overall, win the Wellings Salver, best nett score, and the Scotts Trophy for the most improved in the afternoon.

Susan Moore played very steadily to win the Morning Cup and come second in the overall nett competition. Beryl Turner was there to present the trophy she had given to the club.

The Junior Stableford was keenly contested as the junior big guns came away with the prizes. David Lyons with 40 points took first place and George Seed (39) claimed second with George Yorke (38), third.

In the May Stableford Division One, the top three all scored 37 points so on countback Paul ‘Sonny’ Liston won, Simon Harris was second with Gareth Williams third

In Division Two it was very much a family affair as son Joseph Thirlwell with 37 points pushed father Mark, 35 points, into second place!

It was good to see that Mike Hankey finish third with 34 points, taking time off from all the wonderful voluntary work he does around the grounds at the golf club.
