Lyme Regis ladies’ show ‘how it’s done’ with successful week

The Lyme Regis ladies’ have again shown the men ‘how it is done’ in the past week’s league action, writes Paul Moffitt.

They took six points off a very strong Poole Park side when playing at home last Tuesday. Lyme Regis’ third team were unfortunate not to get an overall win against Sherborne A, losing out by just three shots.

The championship side showed nothing like championship potential when being well beaten away to Wellworthy. The men did have some success though, with a close fought battle against local rivals Bridport in the Top Club competition.

They came out 3-2 winners over the five disciplines. A fine last ditch win in the triples, after playing an extra end, helped secure the victory. A far tougher test comes up this Sunday when they have to try and match Greenhill in the second round. The men were not as fortunate in the County Cup against Broadstone Wessex, fielding a side with a few important players missing, and will take no further part in the competition!

Nola Stephens, Lesley Broom and Jan Parsons were very unfortunate not to progress to the semi-finals of the county triples. Having held a strong Bridport trio to a draw at 18 ends, they were unable to find that elusive winning shot in the extra end.

The friendly front was anything but, with Lyme losing all three games sometimes in quite spectacular fashion.
