There was mixed fortunes for Lympstone Boxing club’s Juniors on Saturday when they had warm up bouts at Weston-super-Mare in readiness for their final home show of the season tomorrow (Friday, May 23), at the Exmouth Pavilion, writes Neil Parsons.

Jack Silk, 13yrs and 51kgs, met the home club’s Wes Williams, 13yrs and 52kgs. Silk opened the bout in defensive mode and allowed Williams to boss the round.

Silk started the second with more purpose but was getting caught with slick counters, the third followed the same pattern with the home clubs boxer wanting it more and winning a tight split decision, If Silk who was the tidier boxer is to win these tight bouts he must up his work rate as he has to work for the verdict it wont be given him on a plate.

Aaron Robinson, 13yrs and 48kgs, stepped up a class when he met Scott Davey of the home club. Robinson allowed Davey to make his moves and then pounced with effective counters, Davey tried to be selective with his shots, but Robinson made him pay every time he came into range, by the third Robinson was well on top and started the third with plenty in the tank and powered forward landing at will to take a well deserved points verdict.

Dean Tibble, 13 yrs and 66kgs met Wallace Attwell of Weston, the first was a very even affair and could have gone either way.

Tribble seemed to take his foot off the pedal for a little while and allowed the home boy to take a slight advantage.

Attwell got the better of the third by the slimmest of margins, Tribble coped well with the Weston Boxers poor sportsmanship and showboating to give a good account of himself giving one of the best performances of the season.

Tomorrow night’s event at the Exmouth pavilions sees the night’s Guest of Honour as former British Light-welterweight champion, Darren Hamilton.
