Honiton seconds made the long trip over to Tavistock for a Merit Table clash. Having beaten them earlier in the season, Honiton knew it would be a much tougher game on the moors, and so it panned out with the laceman losing out 34-5, writes Tom Churchward.

Again travelling with the bare 15, Honiton were met by a large squad. Some injustice was felt before the game even kicked off, with the rule which Tavistock applied in the earlier meeting stating that only three subs were allowed being conveniently forgotten this time round!

When the game did kick off it was an even affair for the first 15 minutes until Tavistock scored from a set play to open the scoring. Unfortunately this saw an uncharacteristic defensive breakdown from Honiton who went on to concede a further four tries to find themselves 29-0 down at the break.

Knowing that this was not a fair reflection of the difference between the two sides, Honiton started the second half with a new lease of life.

The majority of the half was spent in the Tavistock half and this pressure was finally converted into points when Honiton drove over from a scrum for Tom Churchward to touch down from the back.

With only a few minutes remaining Tavistock found their way back up the park to cross over once more to leave the final score at 34-5.

A mention must go to Matt Baily who had one of his best games in a Honiton shirt and is certainly one for the future.

Next week Honiton continue their tough away run with a trip to Newton Abbot.
