Honiton are finding good form to date this season, reporting another win on Saturday, writes Lucy LeCocq.

The game was slow to start, with Honiton playing into the sun and both teams took several minutes to find their feet.

Amy Phillips played a key role, feeding the ball from her roaming sweeper position out to the wingers. There was good passing and communication on the pitch resulting in several chances being blocked by Exe’s keeper.

Finally, after a strong cross into the D, and a scuffle, Dawn Mayo made Honiton’s efforts count and they went 1-0 up.

Play went back and forth to both ends of the pitch in a fast game but Honiton’s defence were always quick to clear the ball and played excellently together. Two more Honiton goals followed and it was 4-0 at the break.

Exe came back strongly at the start of the second half and had some chances; however Katrina Tucker broke away after the defence cleared to her. She found herself contending with both an Exe defender and their keeper, but having dribbled half the field, kept her composure and with confidence, slotted the ball with force into the back of the goal with a thud.

Laura Frank claimed a piece of the action as she deflected a cross in, before Sophie George found her form and added two more.

It was an exciting game with Honiton really coming together as a team.

Emily Gawler was Player of the Match, well deserved for her efforts in defence.

Honiton are away to Okehampton this week, for their third league test of the season.
