Mixed fortunes of late for Axminster bowlers, writes David Harris.

A mixed friendly at home to Kingsteignton was lost 73-70, despite wins for Mike Mellor, Bridget Hallowes, and Howard Keep (22-20), and Alan Foster, Brian Clark, and Ann Clayton (20-13), whilst Valerie Mellor, Sue Bond, and Nigel Bond tied (17-17).

A trip to Wellington ended in a 78-70 defeat with the only success being Joan Quick, Ann Clayton and AN Other (26-7).

There was a 52-41 success at Charmouth where there were wins for John Hill, David Harris, and Brian Clark (20-10) and Ken Quick, Les Clark, and Ann Clayton (19-15).

The Over-60s men bounced back after their heavy defeat at Chardstock to defeat visiting Okehampton 56-15 with wins for John Hill, George Mabon, and Bob Sherborne (29-9) and John Ellis, David Harris, and Ken Webster (27-6) and they then beat visiting Dunkeswell 53-27 with a win for John Ellis, David Harris, and Ken Webster (36-6).

Last Saturday, 20 members enjoyed Captain’s Day when an excellent meal prepared by ladies’ captain Ann Clayton was greatly appreciated by all.

This was followed by a roll-up, which proved almost too much in the extreme heat!
