Mixed team enjoy good results

14:33 30 January 2013

As with most sports, the bowls fixture list has been rather curtailed during the recent cold snap, writes David Harris.

The ladies had two home friendlies cancelled against Devon Patrons and Donyatt whilst the men’s Over 60s’ Devon League match against Padbrook Park was also off.

In the mixed friendlies played, Axminster lost heavily at home to Madeira (35-72) with no winning rinks but came back strongly to beat Ottery St Mary at home (61-52) with wins for Brian Clark, Pauline Knight, Gerald Knott, and Marion Harris (22-15) and Morrison Brown, Pam Hunter, Jean Kesterton, and Margaret Crompton (21-19) whilst Margaret Brown, Mike Knight, David Harris, and Ann Clayton tied (18-18).

Axminster then had a good win at Budleigh (50-22) with wins on both rinks – David Harris, Daphne Ryan, Ann Clayton, and Bob Sherborne (27-10) and Brian Clark, John Hill, Jean Kesterton, and Margaret Crompton (23-12).

In their only match played the ladies lost their home friendly against Sidmouth (42-56) with their best rink being Joan Quick, Daphne Ryan, Marion Harris, and Margaret Crompton who played out an exciting tie (15-15).
