University 5, Offwell Rangers 1
Rangers slipped to their 10th defeat of the Division Three season when well beaten at University.
However, boss Gary Osbourne was upbeat post match. He said: “In the six games I have been in charge I’d say that University are the best team we have faced and we matched them in every department. For me the only difference on the day was that they had much better fortune than us in front of goal.”
Rangers struck first through Liam Spiller, but then were pegged back by a long-range superb strike by one of the students.
After the break Rangers created as many chances as their hosts, but the telling difference was in the finishing. Ben Gilbert had a fine game after switching from centre back to left back whilst Dean Sluman was outstanding in central midfield. Others to catch the eye were Lewis Couch in a free role behind the striker whilst Jamie Doidge was industrious throughout.
On Saturday they entertain mid-table Hemyock who beat them 8-2 when the sides met in October. Rangers go into the game looking for their first win since December 1. Osbourne says: “If the players play as they did against University, and our luck changes, then we will be fine.”
