It was a bitterly cold morning to be playing golf with a driving wind that was in the polar opposite direction to that which we are used to at Honiton. Scoring was always going to be tough, writes Andy Wagner.

The success stories in Div 1 were Paul Blackmore 35pts, Steve Waller 34pts with John Fleetwood third 32pts. Div 2 had John Burden 39pts just shading it on count back from Jonathan Barker with Bob Cleal third on 37pts.

●Tuesday Mixed - This week’s competition was 321 Team Stableford, the first time it has been played on a Tuesday and was very well received. The winning team with 82pts on c/b were Jan and John Dickinson playing with Linda and John Northover. Second ocb were Andrea and Stan Squire with Maureen and Laurie Tollemache.

Golfer of the Year was lady captain Sue Ritchie. Second was Jane Watts, third John Dickinson.

Members were delighted that Tuesday's organiser Geoff Banks came to the Club to present the trophy to Sue.

●Ladies’ Section - The Ladies’ Section fielded a small number of players on Wednesday and so, with only 16 ladies playing in the non qualifier Stableford, only three prizes were given overall.

The course was playing very long so the first place score was very well won by Lesley Oxenham with 33 points. Second place went to Lesley Farley on 30 points with Diana Gee third place with 28 points.

●Seniors Section - 66 Seniors ventured out into a cold wind to contest their three ball better-ball event on Friday. The Seniors Captain, John Discombe along with Bob Milton and Bob Cleal came home winners with 74 points, closely followed by Ron Cooper, Norman Ede and Malcolm Matthews only one point behind. In third place came Andy Sharland, Peter Blake and Bob Canterbury again only one point back with Don Stroud, Bill Spice and Ashley Murray taking the last prize. There were only two twos scored on the day, by John Discombe and Ron Cooper and they had a rollover 51 balls each to share with their playing partners. A great pay-day for the first two teams!
