Perfect conditions at Cotleigh
20:04 17 October 2012
Sunday morning started bright and crisp leading to perfect race conditions for the second running of The Cotleigh Canter’s 3K, 5K – mostly for juniors and 10K road races, writes Dave Mutter.
AVR had two AVR Club Pups - sisters Caitlin and Poppy Tooze (Juniors who are too young to join the AVR Junior Section) in the 3k and two AVR Juniors. Caitlin came 11th out of 48 finishers in 16:52, 1st U8 8 Girl, with mentor Alice FitzHenry 12th in 16:53, 2nd U16 girl. Poppy was 37th in 22:31, 8th U11 girl, with her mentor Jermaine Day 41st in 23:03, 3rd U16 girl; a super effort for her first run for the club.
●Ethan Day was the first AVR finisher in the 5K, 4th out of 32 in 20:40. Ben Franklin was 14th in 25:17, just holding off Adam Burrough who was 15th in 25:47. Caleb Sinclaire finished 20th in 27:18, just ahead of his mum, Kathryn Alexander who was 25th in 30:08. Irene Croad ran well to finish 27th in 32:50 and Liz Thomas broke her PB by finishing 31st in 39:55. Harry Moore, still plagued by a calf injury was 32nd in 50:14.
●There were 43 entries in the 10K and for the first time Chris Driver was the first AVR home, 10th in 43:53, he was just ahead of Dave Thomas, 12th, 44:32 and Ian Clements 14th, 45:07. Wayne Tooze ran well to finish 23rd, 48:06 as did Steven Lewis 28th, 50:48. Sam Tooze was 34th, 55:13. Janette Mack has really improved lately and had another great run finishing 36th, 56:39 as did Sue Venn who was 38th in 57:35. Mike Venn completed in 1:07:40. Many thanks to Honiton RC for putting on another great event.
●Tom Bland completed the 12K multi-terrain Studland stampede 10th in 52:15; a brilliant effort.
●Lesley Adams and Carol Austin were each members of different teams of four running the Coventry half marathon. Congratulations to Austin’s team that won the relay and received a splendid trophy from the Mayor of Coventry. Adams’s team finished well up the order of the 22 teams as she describes it on a course that was rather hilly, more like Devon than the Midlands. Adams had a busy weekend as on Saturday she completed the Cannon Hill parkrun 227th in 27:17, a considerable improvement over last week.
