Hot on the heels of the 36-hole Honiton club championship comes another 36-hole event, the no less prestigious McClydemont Cup, writes Andy Wagner.

The day looked fair and the course in perfect condition for some good scores, and so it proved with the Division One boys Jake Phillips and John Tierney notching nett 69 and 68 respectively only to see John Fleetwood fly round with an impressive 66.

All rested on round two with Jake Phillips and John Tierney fighting it out to a standstill, this time with 70 and 71 respectively, but John Fleetwood fell away with a nett 78.

The afternoon’s sparkling round went to Max Nield with another impressive nett 66. The overall finishers had, in Division One Jake Phillips first with a 69 and a 68 for a 137 total.

John Tierney with a 68 and a 71 (139) took second and third spot went to Stan Squire with his pair of 73s for a 146.

In Division Two Max Bield claimed top spot with scores of 74 and 66 for a 140 total.

Second was Darren England with a 67 and a 76 (14) and a respectable third was John Fleetwood with his 66 and 78 (144).

All this led to Jake Phillips being the overall cup winner on count back.
