The Axe Cliff seniors had top contend with exceedingly blustery conditions at their latest meeting, writes Helen Kenworthy.

The twenty-eight players who participated battled the elements well, but scores were on the high side and the best returns were two 75 netts.

These were carded by Nick Povey (19) who won on countback from Iain Bain (14).

Third place, all on his own with 76 nett, was John Mant (18).

There was only one two recorded with that being down to Geoff Hughes

The men’s section played round eight of their Winter League and in first place were Paul Clode and Simon Sweetland with 35 points.

In second pace, a point behind, were Paul Curtin and Basil Dean.

Once again conditions were far from ideal for the most recent round of the seniors’ Winter League Programme. Despite the breeze, Alan Vincent (18) playing on his own as his partner was unavailable, scored an unbelievable 37 points over the 15 holes!

Alan and partner Gilbert Cox are edging ahead with just two rounds remaining. Second place on the day went to Chris Jowett (16) and Jack Bannister with 34 points. Dave Weston (19) and Tony Horton (26) took third spot with 33 points. Jack Bannister bagged the only two of the day.

The Men’s section played their March medal and Division One was won by Paul Clode with Alan Morgan taking second place.

Alan Cooper won Division Two with David Morgan in second place.

The only two was recorded by Alan Kenworthy.

The Axe Cliff ladies’ played their County Price par competition and it was won by Helen Kenworthy with Lesley Crawford second and Margaret Kenchington third.
