This was Purdy’s fifth contest and he already holds the Wrsa southern area Thaiboxing title at middleweight. The stadium at Chaweng was full to capacity, Purdy was cornered by his coach, three times champion Sonny Perez.

Round 1 was even with Purdy landing solid body kicks and his opponent, a veteran of over 100 contests, landing elbow strikes. In round two, Purdy showed tenacity and composure after he was floored twice with punches, taking two eight counts.

As in international boxing, if a fighter takes three counts in a round, the fight is automatically stopped. However as his opponent came in with a flurry of punches to attempt to end the contest, Purdy connected with a powerful left cross, leaving his opponent unable to beat the count of 10.

His next contest is on October 20, at Oceana nightclub in Cardiff.
