Honiton 2nds made the long trip up to Bideford and, with call-ups to the 1st XV for the trip to Bude, the Lacemen were forced into Friday night call-ups to field a team.

After a sluggish start during which they fell behind, the Lacemen rallied well and Ollie Hyland crashed over for a try, but they were always up against it and the home aide scored twice more to hold a comfortable lead at the break.

As with the first half, Honiton were slow out of the blocks after the break and conceded a fourth try soon after the re-start. However, once again they showed good character to dig deep and battle their way back into the contest and it was no more than they deserved stand-in prop Josh Webber went over and then skipper Welch crashed over from short range for a second Honiton try of the half.

That set the Lacemen up for a barn storming finish, but try as they honourably did, they could not break down the strong home defence and, to compound the misery, they conceded two late tries, both against the run of play at that stage of the contest, to eventually lose 38-19.

The Honiton Man of the Match award went to Phil Bennett, who put in a good shift all afternoon.
