Exmouth make another Honiton signing

10:48 19 June 2014

Honiton’s players player of the year and top try scorer from last season, Ollie Rice, has joined a number of his former team mates in the step up the league ladder by signing for Exmouth RFC for the coming season.

Recent seasons has seen a number of promising and talented players leave Honiton for sides higher up the league structure, with Nathan Hannay (Jersey and Leeds) being a prime example.

Rice has decided that the time is right for him to leave his hometown club in order to experience National League rugby, and in doing so with come into contact with a number of familiar faces at the Imperial Recreation Ground.

Exmouth Head Coach Jon Hill says: “We have been aware of Ollie for quite some time and have been following his progress with interest. Current first team members and former Honiton RFC players Jack Fahy and George Meadows have always spoken very highly of Ollie and through discussions with all parties, we are delighted that Ollie has decided to join us for the forthcoming season. Ollie has superb counter attacking abilities and his skill set certainly suits the way in which we like to play and approach the game. With the playing retirement of Jon Fabian, and the loss of Alex Brown to National One outfit Hartpury College, we have been looking at ways in which to fill the void that they leave, and Ollie absolutely fits the bill.

“Ollie will, of course know a number of players at Exmouth already and this will certainly speed up the integration and familiarity aspect. As a club, we would like to thank Honiton RFC for their understanding regarding this latest move, appreciate their frustration at their latest player loss, but also applaud them for not standing in the way of a talented player wishing to test themselves in the National Leagues.”
