Seaton bowlers took on visiting Chardstock in a four-rink friendly winning the contest by three rinks to one, and overall by 80 shots to 47, writes Alan Nicholas.

Seaton’s top rink was the one of Hilary Sunderland, Reg Pluck, Dennis Ridd and Joan Miles, who won by 24 shots against seven.

The President’s Cup competition was played on the first Saturday of the month. This is a four wood drawn singles competition, played to 21 shots, and the protagonists are the top eight players in the current years men’s and ladies’ championships (the quarter-finalists).

This event usually attracts a good number of spectators and this year was no exception.

The competition is played to semi-finals on the one day, with the semi-finals and final played on Club Finals weekend.

This year it will take place on the second weekend of September (9 and 10) and the four who will now contest the semi-finals are Angie Mayhew, Maria Johnson, Roger Woolland and Dave Yardley.

A four rink friendly at Bridport was the Sunday action, but, unfortunately, Seaton lost on three rinks – winning just the one with that being the rink of Kevin McCarthy, Alan Nicholas, Liz Wilde and Peter Grigg, scoring 23 shots against 14.

The latest East of Exe Mixed League match was away against Uffculme where the home team took the match by three rinsk to one and by an overall shots score of 71-57.

The top Seaton rink was the one of Angie Mayhew, Peter Grigg, Terry Hurley-Smith and Les Tooze, who won 20-13.

The friendly match, away against Feniton, on Tuesday, was called off after just three ends due to heavy rain.
