There was a big swing in fortunes for the Seaton bowlers last week, writes Linda Stone.

The week began with a comprehensive defeat at Axminster where the home team won on all four rinks as the Seaton bowlers found the transition from grass to carpet very tricky.

The rinks that lost by the least score were those of John Packham, Geoff Fullalove, Angie Mayhew and skip Richard Whitworth and Tony Johnson, Alice Carter, Maria Johnson and skip Les Tooze.

However, there was a big change of fortune once the team returned to a grass surface! A trip to Sidmouth produced a 95-64 success with victory on all four rinks, the best of which was the one comprising of Lilian Hurley-Smith, Geoff Fullalove, David Ford and skip Pat Whitworth. All players must be congratulated for their excellent play.

Saturday saw the visit of the Abertillery touring side. They proved to be a very enthusiastic and lively touring team from Wales who claimed a single shot victory in a close encounter that ended 96-95!

The top Seaton rink was the one of Ivor Steer, John Bellamy, Maria Johnson and skip Joan Miles who won by the large margin of 31-12.

The Over-60s B team played their first game at home against Bradninch B and had an excellent eight point win thanks to a 43-21 success. The top rink was Mike Clarke, Doug Hislop and Jeremy Allison.

The previous week the B team secured a six point win away to Tiverton West End B where the top rink proved to be that of Mike Clarke, Terry Hurley-Smith and Jeremy Allison.

Seaton A were involved in a real thriller of a game against Ottery St Mary A with the match ending in a 36-all draw. The best performing Seaton triple comprised Ivor Steer, Ron Rowley and Les Tooze.

Coaching for novice players has started on Saturdays at 10am and Mondays at 10.30am.

New players are always welcomed and coaching is available.
