Seaton Primary School administrator, Michelle Bee, will realise a lifelong ambition when she competes in the Virgin London Marathon this Sunday.

She is a member of the Axe Valley Runners and has chosen to run for the Royal Air Forces Association charity as both she and her husband, Jim, are former serving members.

After being informed that she had been chosen to run for the charity last October, her challenge was not only to get fit, but to raise £1700 by the end of March.

Although a daunting amount to achieve, she successfully hit her target at Christmas by raising money from a cake sale, a sweepstake to predict her finishing time, two table top sales as well as persuading her husband to have his legs waxed by beauty students at Somerset College!

She then got Year 4 teacher Mr Lewis to shave off half his beard at the Christmas Bazaar.

Seaton Lions Club kindly donated £100 and she organised a raffle at Dunkeswell Kart Club.

With her required target achieved, she has focused her efforts on increasing her fitness and has been following a rigorous training plan to prepare her for the world famous 26 mile challenge.

Over the last four months Michelle has built up her distance with the help of friends who have joined her on the long Saturday runs building up to 21 miles recently.

She has now set herself a renewed target of the fund raising of £2,000.

She says: “RAFA is a fantastic charity that both Jim and I have seen in action when they helped an RAF friend of ours after a serious car accident, the support they gave was outstanding.”
