Seaton Town showed real character in their game at Clyst Valley.
Town were staring down the barrel of a rare defeat when 2-0 down at half-time, but an interval discussion, coupled with a greater tempo in the second half, and three more points were banked courtesy of three unanswered goals.
Town boss Josh Stunell said: “For the first third of the game they (Clyst Valley) produced as good as anything that has been played against us this season.
However, just before the break I noticed they were beginning to slow the tempo. We got our first reasonably early in the second half and, once we were back level, I felt there was only going to be one winner.”
Ten minutes into the second half a Dan Norman penalty, awarded after the same player was felled in the area, launched the comeback.
Parity was restored when Miles Alphonse got away down the flank before crossing where the ball was met by Cameron Dias who planted a firm header into the net.
The winner arrived with twenty minutes to go with Charlie Cross striking a wonderful shot from 30-yards that left the Clyst Valley gloves man clutching at fresh air! Thereafter, Town settled for what they had and closed the game out in some comfort.
Both St Martins and Topsham Town also won, so there’s no change at the top of the Fresha League table.
Next up it’s a third meeting with Willand Rovers who have already knocked Town out of a cup and held them 0-0 two weeks ago.
Stunell says: “I am sure the players will not need any motivational chat before this one. We owe Willand one and hopefully, in our case, it’s going to be third time lucky”
