Since losing to Long Sutton back in March, Axe Cliff Seniors have gone unbeaten at Axe Cliff with eight wins and two drawn matches, writes Janet Dack.
The eighth was last Monday in the final home fixture of the season and with a 4 ½. to 1 ½. result avenged the defeat suffered at High Bickington in July. Although two games were comfortable wins, the remaining four went to the final green with three being halved and the other a home victory. Winning pairings for Axe Cliff included Chris Walker/Peter Knighting, John Hanna/Leighton Morgan and Jack Bannister/Iain Bain. The half points were won by Rob Grove/Chris Jowett, Dave Weston/Gilbert Cox and Mick Tomes/John White.
The Main Club played for the October Medal where the winner of the First Division was Peter Pertherbridge with Alan Morgan in second place. The second Division winner was Alex Palmer with Stuart Dickson taking second place.
Before the rains,the ladies competed to see who would represent the Axe Cliff Golf Club in the Daily Mail Foursomes Competition for 2013. The winners were Helen Kenworthy and Sandra Walker with Pat Ayshford and Janet Dack in second place !.
